Crimson rivers cascading,
The entire body aching,
As metal slugs ram into failing flesh,
A fallen soldier clutches a severed hand to his chest,
He mutters a curse with his last breath.

What possesses Man to bring about such pain
Are we insane?
What evils lurk within Man’s heart?
What causes Man to partake of Death and gore?
We are the dogs of war.

A wounded warrior loses ground,
He falls to his knees and looks around,
The bodies of his brethren lay broken,
Bombs fly high and low,
Death comes to claim him, torturous and slow.
As his shattered shell empties of life,
The fallen Man has but a final thought:
When will they tell my wife
